“I observe, therefore I create”
A platform dedicated to exploring and explaining the relationship between consciousness and quantum mechanics.
Introduction
‘If we are asleep to the dreamlike nature of the universe, it is easy to fall into what physicist David Bohm calls ‘self deception’ (Buddha called this ‘Avidya’, i.e., ‘not seeing’, ‘ignorance’), through which, by misunderstanding the nature of ourselves, the universe, and our place in it, we unwittingly and unnecessarily enslave ourselves. Quantum mechanics is a medicine for the overly materialistic madness we’ve succumbed to. It points at and is an expression of our universe being more like a conscious organism than a robotic machine.’
― Paul Levy, ‘The Quantum Revelation’
This website is about consciousness. And by consciousness I am not referring to the brain process most scientists today seem to think it is. It is also about the wondrous phenomena of quantum mechanics and its relationship with the conscious mind.
Five years ago, my worldview was radically expanded. I once had an enlightening experience after taking ayahuasca, but this time no psychedelics were needed. It simply happened by reading a book: ‘Biocentrism’ (2010), written by scientist Robert Lanza and co-written with astronomer Bob Berman. The book aims to answer the big questions of life through science. What is the universe? Where did life come from? And what is the relationship between mind, matter, space and time? The answers of ‘Biocentrism’ were at the time very surprising to me, but also rang very true. Not because of the credentials of the authors, which are extremely impressive, but because of the arguments presented. And mostly because of the way the theory is compatible with all the findings of modern science.
The universe is not what we think it is. We consider it as a place of sorts, but it is not. Science has revealed, according to the rebellious thinker Lanza and a number of fellow scientists and philosophers whose work I will discuss on this platform, that it really is an information system that runs on consciousness. Unbounded, non-local consciousness that is. Within this unimaginable vast consciousness system, sentient beings like us are processing information into the appearance of a physical environment. And we are also creating the illusion of separateness between us and other objects. According to biocentrism, the observer and observed only appear to be separate but they are really one and the same thing. Nothing is really separate in nature. According to Lanza, the outside world has no independent existence. We create it by observing. Ultimately, the universe resides in our consciousness. Everything does.
If all this sounds confusing so far, don’t worry. The essays that follow explain everything in small chunks. They can be read in any order, but if this topic is new for you my advice is to start with the first five. After that, the basic ideas should be quite clear.
